  • However, he will now meet with Erik ten Hag to discuss his role within the team.
  • A loan move is an option with Watford and Valencia interested in the star

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri will hold talks about his immediate future at Old Trafford after making his debut in Tuesday’s 3-0 League Cup win over Charlton.

A Uruguayan international, Pellistri had to wait more than two years for first-team minutes after joining the club in 2020 from professional club Peñarol in his home soil.

The relatively unknown winger enjoyed two reasonably successful loan spells at LaLiga side Deportivo Alavés, before impressing United boss Erik ten Hag enough to stay at the club for the current season.

However, despite picking up an assist in his first competitive senior appearance for the club when he assisted Marcus Rashford to another Old Trafford goal, Pellistri could find himself voluntarily heading for the club’s starting gate.

The January transfer window has presented the 21-year-old with an opportunity to earn regular minutes elsewhere with recognized interest coming from both the English and Spanish sides.

A meeting has been scheduled in the coming days between Pellistri, his representatives and United manager Ten Hag to discuss the player’s future at the club and determine whether another loan may be beneficial.

The 21-year-old is keen for more playing time after playing a limited role at United.

Previously, Ten Hag had been reluctant to allow the South American to leave the club despite supporters seeing Pellistri as a constant bench warmer, and his chances of being selected over others playing in his position looked slim.

La Liga outfit Valencia have been following Pellistri’s performances for United’s under-21 team and have inquired about the possibility of a loan deal until the end of the season.

English championship club Watford have also made an official request to take the star on loan, however Pellistri is not interested in moving down the division.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Pellistri’s attitude and work ethic in training.

The young attacker is highly regarded by his United teammates, many of whom were quick to congratulate him on Instagram after making his debut, and Ten Hag sees him as a brilliant manager.

Therefore, the option of him staying at the club after the January transfer market is another alternative that will also be discussed at the next meeting.
