Manchester United themed cafe – just yards from Old Trafford – is given zero-star hygiene rating after RAT infestation and forced to temporarily close down
A Manchester United-themed cafe has been given a zero-star hygiene rating after being found to have a rat infestation.
The United Cafe – decorated in the colors of the Red Devils and located just a few hundred meters from Old Trafford – is popular with match fans.
According to The subwaythe cafe was voluntarily closed after the pests were discovered, before a hygiene inspector ordered them to carry out a deep clean and trial work.
Along with the United Cafe, an adjacent location called Legends was also voluntarily closed at the time due to the contamination.
According to a Trafford Council report, a full inspection was carried out in August, examining the cafe’s cleaning procedures and hazard assessment.
Below a list of key points, the inspector wrote: ‘Visit due to issues with rat activity in the area. Both buildings have been voluntarily closed due to rat infestation.’

An ‘urgent improvement’ flag is shown against food safety management at United Cafe.
Match fans were able to stop for fish and chips, a full English breakfast and more at the United Cafe, before it was temporarily closed due to the contagion.
However, on the review platform TripAdvisor, the company receives a rating of 3.5 and a number of positive responses.
“Great fries and curry sauce, fresh fries even on a Monday afternoon,” one user wrote.
‘A group of us needed a place to meet before the match and it turned out to be perfect. Not only does it look like a really good takeaway, it also served as a bar early in the evening which was perfect,” said another.
Meanwhile, a council spokesperson said: ‘Environmental health officers at Trafford Council gave the United Cafe/Legends a zero rating for food hygiene following a routine visit.
‘We are now working closely with the company to ensure it meets the rating and makes the necessary improvements.’
