Manchester United team bus is damaged on its way to Anfield as bottles are thrown by Liverpool supporters lining the streets

A bottle was thrown at the Manchester United team bus as it headed to Anfield ahead of their Premier League match against Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag's side made the short journey to neighboring Liverpool by road and suffered damage to their team coach as he weaved through the streets on the approach to the stadium.

United's two coaches brought players and staff to the home of Jurgen Klopp's title challengers. The vehicle in front of the pair was hit by the missile thrown into a crowd of Liverpool fans.

The vehicle reportedly suffered damage to a window on the top deck of the bus, which was partially destroyed by the bottle.

United eventually arrived at the stadium as players and staff made their way to the ground and went through their usual pre-match preparations ahead of the 4.30pm kick-off.

A video on the X account of a Liverpool fan with an avatar showing a photo of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold shared the moment the United team bus was hit.

The video, titled 'In them Liverpool', shows a glass cider bottle being held before it is then thrown at United's coach and crashes into one of the glass windows.

The bus continued to make its way to the stadium, with security and stewards separating them from the Liverpool supporters as the players disembarked.

A statement from Liverpool condemned the violent scenes that led to the United team coach being damaged, saying: 'Liverpool Football Club strongly condemns the actions that led to damage to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon .

'We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police to fully investigate and identify those responsible.

'Any person found guilty of this reprehensible conduct will also face the full force of the Club's sanctions process.'
