Manchester United striker Antony has been left in shock after crashing his £100,000 BMW on a motorway on New Year’s Eve following Man United’s 1-0 win against Wolves, according to reports.

Sun claim the 22-year-old crashed his BMW X6 into roadworks on the M56 near his home in Hale, Greater Manchester, while driving in ‘wet’ conditions.

Police were called to the location where the £80m winger “passed a breathalyzer test” before his car was recovered, with the newspaper stating that “no one else was involved in the incident”.

A source for The Sun said: “It was dark and wet and he made an error in judgement.

“He was in shock but luckily no one else was involved and he was not injured.”

Antony, who arrived at Old Trafford earlier this summer, was absent from Man United’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth on Tuesday, but returned to the fold on Friday to score the opener in the Red Devils’ win for 3-1 against Everton. .

He was omitted from Eric ten Hag’s squad to play Bournemouth on Tuesday.

The striker was also seen, according to The Sun, driving a Lamborghini Aventador in the days leading up to the match against the Toffees.

Speaking after the game, the Brazilian, who has scored four times in 15 appearances in the red shirt, revealed he had to deal with a “really difficult time” and claimed he “had a shock”.

He said: ‘I’m very grateful to God for putting that behind me now, grateful to the club, to the players and to the manager. They all stayed by my side.

“It was a very, very difficult time for me a few days ago. But God has always been on my side and I am also grateful to my family. I dedicate this goal to them, it’s at times like these when you know who really loves you.

However, he returned to the team on Friday to score in United’s 3-1 FA Cup win against Everton.

The former Ajax striker, who scored in the fourth minute of that match with a sliding touch, also spoke of his elation at how happy he was to score for the Red Devils.

“First of all, it’s a feeling of joy,” he told TNT Sports after the game. ‘I’m happy to score again, especially at home.

I’ve set myself some goals for this season and it’s good to score as soon as I start thinking about personal goals. But, of course, the most important thing is United’s qualification to the next stage.

‘This is my frame of mind now. I am 100% focused on honoring the fans and the club. We all know the size of this club and we want to put United back where they deserve to be.”
