Manchester United star Anthony Martial is reportedly being offered the chance to return to France as a number of Ligue 1 clubs eye a move for the striker.

At the end of January, Martial was ruled out for ten weeks after groin surgery, as his career at Old Trafford continues to spiral out of control.

It also puts a question mark over whether Martial, 28, will play for the club again as he prepares to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

United will not renew his £250,000-a-week contract, meaning the Frenchman could leave as a free agent for nine years after signing for Monaco in a transfer that made him the most expensive teenager in world football.

Now it looks like the 28-year-old could make a stunning return to French football in the summer, with a number of Ligue 1 teams showing interest in the soon-to-be free agent.

According to The sunFormer clubs Monaco and Marseille are keeping tabs on the United striker before his contract expires in the summer.

Martial spent three seasons at Monaco before moving to Old Trafford, where he scored 15 goals and had eight assists from 70 appearances.

Monaco have finished third in two of the last three seasons and are currently in the same position in Ligue 1, behind only PSG and Nice.

Marseille, meanwhile, have had a slow start to the season but, having recovered their form, currently sit eighth in the French top-flight standings.

In 2015, Martial cost United £36 million, but the deal was worth a whopping £58 million including add-ons.

The erratic striker, who was loaned to Sevilla two years ago, scored 90 goals in 317 games in an injury-marred United career.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Martial was training on his own to regain fitness after being absent due to illness since early December, and his agent Philippe Lamboley confirmed he had a groin problem that required surgery.

A statement from United said: ‘Anthony Martial has undergone successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for approximately ten weeks as he continues his rehabilitation.’

The forward has made just 13 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season after struggling with a number of injuries.

During that time, the Frenchman scored just one goal in their 3-0 win over Everton in November.
