Manchester United are weighing up a £45million move for Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha.

The United board have been made aware that the Brazil international is willing to make the move despite only joining Atletico last summer and agreeing a five-year deal.

Atletico need to sell players this summer and had offered Alvaro Morata but 23-year-old Cunha fits the profile United would prefer.

No swap for Cristiano Ronaldo has been discussed at this stage with United maintaining the Portuguese remains part of their plans.

Cunha was an 83rd-minute substitute in Atletico Madrid’s LaLiga opener on Monday night

United have been working through transfer targets on Monday as they look to deliver new signings for Erik ten Hag.

They have dismissed talk of a move for Espanyol’s Raul de Tomas while Sasa Kalajdzic of Stuttgart and Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven remain on their list.

Cunha was an 83rd-minute substitute for Atletico on Monday night as they opened their LaLiga season with a 3-0 win away at Getafe. Fellow forwards Alvaro Morata (twice) and Antoine Griezmann got the goals.

Talks are also continuing over a contract for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
