Manchester United players present David de Gea with a special jersey to commemorate him becoming the club’s all-time clean sheet record holder after the Carabao Cup win against Newcastle.

  • De Gea kept his 181 clean sheet for the club, beating Peter Schmeichel
  • The Spaniard achieved the feat in the Carabao Cup final by beating Newcastle

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been given a special jersey to commemorate his becoming the club’s all-time clean sheet record holder.

De Gea accomplished the feat when Manchester United beat Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final, and the Spaniard has kept 181 clean sheets since joining the club in 2011.

In doing so, de Gea moved ahead of the legendary Peter Schmeichel.

De Gea was given the shirt by United manager Erik ten Hag, and the rest of the team were also present on the flight back to Manchester.

Ten Hag’s side are now preparing for Wednesday’s FA Cup clash at home to West Ham.

During his time at the club, de Gea has seen many ups and downs for the team as a whole, but remains firmly established as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Unlike many of his United teammates, de Gea had won trophies with the club before Sunday’s success in lifting the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

De Gea will be hoping to add more trophies to his palmares this season, with United still active in the FA Cup and Europa League, while contention in the Premier League cannot be ruled out.

So far this season, De Gea has kept 16 clean sheets for United in all competitions, ten of which have reached the Premier League.
