On Saturday evening, Manchester United fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Goals from Nicolás Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White, either side of Marcus Rashford's strike, secured all three points for the hosts at the City Ground.

For Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo saw his short but brilliant start at the club extended after completing a 3-1 win against Newcastle in his first game in charge.

For Erik ten Hag's side, however, the result sees them lose ground on the top four spot, with the Red Devils winning just one of their last five league games.

Here, Mail Sport provides player ratings for both teams.

MAN UTD (4-2-3-1)

Onana – Nottingham Forest had two shots on target and scored two goals, but for both the Cameroon international could have done little. 6

Wan-Bissaka – Offered little prospect and struggled defensively at times and could arguably have been in a better position for the second goal. 5

Varane – Looked to be the most composed player in the United backline, but was sometimes caught out by Elanga after once being cynically fouled. 6.5

Evans – A solid performance from the veteran, but he was let down by his midfield. 6

Dalot – A decent performance from the full-back who entertains Forest on the left 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggled both offensively and defensively during the league match

Mainoo – A quiet performance from the youngster in the first half before being replaced by Scott McTominay at half-time following a tactical substitution from Ten Hag. 5

Eriksen – Struggled with the midfield battle at times and failed to create enough of a lead for the Red Devils. 5.5

Antony – A miserable evening for the former Ajax star. Barely made an impression in the match before being replaced by Amad Diallo early in the second half. 4.5

Fernandes – A passionate performance, but ultimately didn't do enough to unlock the Forest defence. 6.5

Garnacho – United's best player of the night. Never stopped running and it paid off for the equalizer. 7

Rashford – Produced a composed finish to get United back into the game but remained quiet next to the goal. 6.5

Antony had a night to forget before being taken away just after half-time

Alejandro Garnacho was Man United's best player after scoring their only goal
