Manchester United legend Nicky Butt is banned from driving after admitting breaking motorcyclist’s leg when he smashed into him in his Range Rover

Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has been banned from driving after admitting breaking a motorcyclist’s leg when he crashed his Range Rover.

Former England footballer Nicky Butt, 49, did not see Andrew Fielden as he drove in Burnley, Lancashire, in October 2022.

Mr Fielden was injured as a result and suffered a broken leg, which had metal rods placed in it, and bruising.

Butt was given a temporary driving ban after the accident. The Sun reports this.

He today admitted at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court to causing serious injury by careless driving.

The former midfielder could receive an unlimited fine or a maximum of two years in prison. The sentencing date has yet to be determined.

Mr Fielden has chosen not to make a victim impact statement and said he had no “bad feelings” towards Butt in the past.

The court heard that Mr Fielden has no memory of the incident but does remember waking up in hospital in pain.

Prosecutor Graeme Tindall said: ‘What appears to have happened is a number of vehicles passing what appears to be a lorry.

“Mr. Butt has let the truck pass and is driving away, and this is when Mr. Fielden comes along on the motorcycle.”

The court heard how Butt had a ‘temporary loss of concentration’ at the time of the incident and how he remained at the scene and has written an apology to Mr Fielden.

John Dye, defending Butt, said: ‘The loss of his license will be extremely difficult for him and his family but that is the inevitable outcome of this case.’
