Manchester United are gearing up to find David de Gea’s successor and could hire a recruiting expert to sign some of the world’s best goalkeepers.

De Gea has played at Old Trafford for 11 years, but his time at United could soon come to an end as his contract expires next summer – and officials have yet to decide whether to extend it.

The Spaniard is only 31 and has many years to go, but the club is still considering his replacement and considering expanding their scouting division that could bring in an analyst, according to ESPN.

The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer with Erik ten Hag, but has yet to make a decision about him

A new vacancy is looking for a candidate who ‘can contribute to the continued expansion and development of Manchester United Football Club’s technical chief scout team, with the specific aim of identifying players who have the potential to play for the first team ‘.

The report claims this new role will focus on the search for goalkeepers, while United are looking for another figure who can follow in the footsteps of Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel by becoming No1s and fan favorites in the long run.

United currently have Martin Dubravka as backup goalkeeper after he was taken over from Newcastle United in the summer, while Dean Henderson has been loaned to Nottingham Forest this season.

De Gea has played 501 games for United since he took over the No jersey in 2011.

De Gea has already made 501 appearances for United in his span of more than a decade, having taken over the number 1 jersey immediately after Van der Sar’s departure – and now the club want their next first-choice stopper in his place.

Speaking of De Gea’s future this week, Ten Hag said he was “very happy” with the Spaniard and said they would assess the situation with him after the World Cup.

“We have not made a decision on him, but I can say that I am very happy with David De Gea as goalkeeper,” he said.

“His first two performances of the season were not his best but as you can see he brings us a lot for defense, gives stability and as a person I like him.

“I can work with him very well, but first we go into the winter and then we talk about how we handle the situations.”
