Manchester United supporters have shown their dissent after the club were linked with a move for former Aston Villa winger and free agent Anwar El Ghazi.

Mail Sport revealed on Monday evening that United are considering bringing in El Ghazi as an emergency replacement for Brazilian star Antony, who has mutually agreed to stay away from the club amid domestic abuse allegations. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Furious fans have vented their frustrations on social media as United look to land the 28-year-old, who left PSV by mutual consent last week and is available to join despite the closure of the transfer window.

Some labeled United’s late transfer activity as ‘desperate’ as Erik ten Hag has ready-made replacements available in Jadon Sancho and the unproven Facundo Pellitri.

El Ghazi last played in the Premier League for Aston Villa and could be offered a return to the English top flight by United, although he also has offers from Saudi Arabia.

One supporter expressed his annoyance at United’s planned move, saying: ‘United are so desperate, they’re going for an Egyptian winger in the hope he might turn out half as good as Mo Salah.’

Another blamed United’s director of football John Murtough for the move, adding: ‘Another Murtough madness! Some football director. It’s taking us towards wall-to-wall Eredivisie garbage!’
