Manchester United ‘did not let Alejandro Garnacho play’ at the under-20 World Cup

Manchester United ‘BLOCKED Alejandro Garnacho from playing’ at the Under-20 World Cup despite the winger ‘doing everything he could’ to represent Argentina in the home tournament

Manchester United have rejected Alejandro Garnacho’s request to take part in the Under-20 World Cup in his native Argentina.

The 18-year-old winger reportedly requested permission from manager Erik ten Hag to represent Argentina in the tournament, which runs from May 30 to June 11.

According to reports in Argentina, Garnacho told Ten Hag: ‘I have to write my story with the Argentina shirt. Please let me go’.

If Garnacho had been allowed to play in the league, he would have unavailable for United in the first Manchester FA Cup final.

The final against Manchester City is scheduled for June 3 at Wembley.

Argentina would have been happy to include Garnacho in their squad for the tournament, as the winger’s involvement would have greatly boosted their chances of success.

Javier Mascherano’s side had initially failed to qualify for the tournament, but Argentina earned an extension after hosting the previous month.

Garnacho has been a revelation when fit this season, scoring four goals in 29 appearances, but has not played since March following an ankle injury.

Garnacho recently shared an Instagram post suggesting he’s almost fully fit again.

Ten Hag has also expressed confidence that Garnacho will return to the first team before the end of the campaign.

The United winger has yet to make an appearance for Argentina’s first team, despite being called up to the squad on several occasions.

The 18-year-old was included in Argentina’s first team for their friendlies against Panama and Curaçao in March.

However, he was injured shortly afterwards in their clash with Southampton and was unable to join the national side.

The winger also missed out on a place in the squad for Qatar when they won the World Cup, but he hopes to break into the first team soon.
