  • Manchester United have announced the squad numbers of five players
  • New acquisitions were given their number, while a switch also took place
  • However, one summer signing has yet to receive their squad number

Manchester United have confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund, a £72 million summer signing, will wear the number 11 shirt when he is ready to make his debut against Arsenal.

The striker is one of five players to have been given new squad numbers for the season. Four of them were summer signings and the other is Alejandro Garnacho who gives up his old shirt number.

Garnacho has been wearing the number 49 since the start of last season, but following Fred’s departure, he has been given the number 17 for the 2023/24 season.

The number 11 shirt that Hojlund will take on was last worn by Mason Greenwood, who is on loan to LaLiga club Getafe for a season.

Other players who have worn the famous number 11 shirt in the past include Ryan Giggs, George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton and in recent years the likes of Anthony Martial and Adnan Januzaj.

There are also new numbers for Jonny Evans, Sergio Reguilon and goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

Evans will wear the number 35 he originally wore when coming through the club’s academy over 16 years ago.

Reguilon, who was loaned from Tottenham, has been given the number 15, worn by Marcel Sabitzer during his loan spell for the second half of last season.

Bayindir meanwhile follows, among others David De Gea, Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar take on the number 1 shirt, as Andre Onana plays with number 24.

The Turkish keeper has big shoes to fill but is likely to play a supporting role for Onana between the sticks at Old Trafford.

One player who has yet to take a number is Sofyan Amrabat, the club’s latest signing on deadline day.

United said his squad number will be revealed when his registration is complete.
