Manchester United conceded directly from a corner for the second time in one week after Ruben Amorim’s side suffered a second-half blow on Boxing Day.
The visitors conceded straight from the set-piece, with Matheus Cunha’s effort sailing straight into the net, past Andre Onana.
It was a double blow in a short space of time, with captain Bruno Fernandes sent off for a second yellow card just ten minutes earlier.
The ball was crossed in from the defensive right side and because Onana was on the line in the center of the goal, he was unable to divert the cross.
It was suggested that the goalkeeper had been fouled, with the Cameroon star heading straight for the referee, but there appeared to be no indication of foul play.
Shortly after the disastrous mistake, former Man United legend Rio Ferdinand took to social media to seemingly make his views known on the matter.
Matheus Cunha’s corner ended straight into the net just before the hour mark
United’s goalkeeper was beaten by the ball, which flew over the line just under the crossbar
“No comment,” the ex-centre defender wrote on X, as his old team again struggled with set pieces.
Cunha’s attack came at a point when the attendance had just been reduced to ten, and the Wolves star later turned provider to assist Hwang Hee-chan’s goal in the 99th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
At the moment Cunha’s ball entered Onana’s airspace, two Wolves attackers were in the immediate vicinity of the goalkeeper, who was cleverly isolated from the rest of his defense.
It was the visitors’ third successive defeat in all competitions, following a 3-0 thrashing of Bournemouth last weekend and a 4-3 defeat at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
