Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes hails ‘amazing comeback’ in Manchester derby victory

Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he told the rest of the Manchester United squad that they “look like a team now”, ahead of their return win against Manchester City.

The Portuguese international scored the controversial equalizer to cancel out Jack Grealish’s opener, before Marcus Rashford netted the winner.

United are now just one point behind Man City in the table, with Fernandes after the match hailing an ‘incredible comeback’ that left Rio Ferdinand celebrating with former team-mate Paul Scholes from the BT studio.

He told BT Sport: “It’s always important to win the game, but as I said before the game, for us it doesn’t matter.” [about] the opponent, the most important thing [thing] is winning and we did it. It was an incredible comeback, a great team effort.

‘I said it before the game to the team ‘now we look like a team’, a few months ago, you could see sometimes a team, sometimes each of us looking for ourselves a little bit, but now you see a proper team that works hard. for each other and you will see that it is worth it.’

United have sported a different team since the return of club football and have now won each of their last nine competitive games, seven of which have been since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club by mutual consent on 22 September. november.

And much of his improvement is probably due to the tough approach of Erik ten Hag, who has seen the likes of Marcus Rashford go down for disciplinary reasons despite his brilliant form.

He also imposed a ‘Ronaldo rule’ salary cap on United players, limiting their earnings to £200,000 a week.

Fernandes was also asked about his controversial 78th-minute equalizer for United.

The ball went through Rashford, who was in an offside position and appeared to be running with the ball.

What’s important though is that Rashford didn’t touch the ball and instead allowed it to roll to Fernandes’ feet to shoot home.

Fernandes said: “I think because he was facing the goal, Marcus probably saw that he was in a better position, he didn’t know if any of us were offside or not, but he doesn’t have any influence because nobody [was] close to him so that he does not influence the team to defend.

“The only close one was one close to me, so it is what it is, a goal, and in the end we are very happy.”

United are now just six points behind leaders Arsenal after an incredible run and could close the gap on the Gunners when they travel to the Emirates next Sunday.
