Manchester United players and Erik ten Hag have been pummeled by L'Equipe following their woeful Champions League exit.

The ratings of the French newspaper can be notoriously harsh and United averaged just 4.3 out of 10 after crashing out of Europe with a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

Antony was ranked as the worst player and achieved a paltry 3 out of 10, the same rating as ten Hag, whose team 'offered no resistance or existed' in their meek surrender on Tuesday.

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the match to condemn United to finish bottom of Group A after a fourth defeat in six group games.

United's four points from six games are the lowest ever in the Champions League and the 15 goals they have conceded are the most by a Premier League side in any group stage of the competition.

Antony started well against Bayern but quickly reverted to type and was ineffective throughout.

The Brazilian has registered one assist and no goal in his last 29 appearances in all competitions for United and has rarely lived up to his £90million price tag.

Andre Onana, Raphael Varane and Diogo Dalot were United's best players on the night, scoring 5 out of 10, while everyone else received a score of 4 out of 10 – apart from Harry Maguire, who had to be sent off injured.

Coman was voted man of the match by L'Equipe and received a score of 7 out of 10 after his match-winning contribution.

Eight Bayern players received a score of six out of 10, with the exception of Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka, who received 3 out of 10 and 5 out of 10 respectively.

L'Equipe noted that Bayern were a 'step too high' for Ten Hag's side, suggesting the Champions League exit 'further darkens the picture' after the dismal 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth Saturday.

However, Ten Hag insisted he was pleased with his team's performance against Bayern, despite United having just one shot on target in a must-win match.

'Today's performance was very good. “We didn't deserve to lose, but we lost the game,” he said.

'But Bayern is also a good team. Even when they are not in the game, they have individual class and they only need one moment. Unfortunately that happened.

“We know we want to be more consistent. As a manager I have to improve the team, I have to guide them and the players have to take responsibility. We have to do that together.'

Asked how he looks back on a miserable Group A campaign, the United manager said: 'Not with regret. We didn't make it, but we have to accept it. We must learn from it.

'We played good football in the Champions League. We need to take some good performances back to the Premier League.

We want to get back in the Champions League.

'We didn't lose today, that's clear. We performed well, but we also made mistakes. In the end it wasn't good enough.

'The facts are that we don't have enough points. We are disappointed as a group, as a manager I am disappointed. We should have done better.'
