Manchester United have listed Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane as potential replacements for Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils boss is reportedly on thin ice amid a poor start to the new season at Old Trafford, with the club losing half of their Premier League games so far and crashing out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

It was the club’s worst start to the season in 61 years and despite being plagued by off-field issues surrounding individual players and ownership uncertainty, the on-field performance was deemed unacceptable.

The Dutchman is not expected to be fired anytime soon, but poor results could end his reign after just over a year in power.

And if decision-makers choose to pull the trigger, Sporting Lisbon’s Amorim and the unemployed Zidane could be eyed for the role, according to reports The times.

Things appear to be getting worse for United, who are eighth in the Premier League and eight points off the top four after five wins and five defeats from their opening 10 games.

They lost 3–0 to Newcastle as they exited the Carabao Cup and sit third in the Champions League with two defeats and a narrow win to their name so far.

But it is believed players are starting to turn against the former Ajax boss as he believes he has favorites in the squad, causing frustration to grow among some stars.

There are also said to be concerns about the management of the club under Ten Hag, with dressing room support traditionally difficult to regain once it has been lost.

There will be a long list of candidates for the job if Ten Hag is sacked soon, with both Amorim and Zidane ranking highly in the club’s estimations.

Amorim has been with Sporting since 2020 and was linked to the position of Tottenham manager before Ange Postecoglou was appointed in the summer.

He won Sporting’s first title in 19 years in the 2020/21 season and, at the age of 38, is considered one of the best young coaches in the world, having also spent time at Casa Pia and Braga since retiring as a player .

Zidane, meanwhile, has not coached since leaving Real Madrid for the second time in 2021, having returned in 2019 following an incredibly successful first spell in charge of his former side.

During his time at Real in two spells, the first of which was from 2016 to 2018, he won two LaLiga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, three Champions League titles in a row: two UEFA Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

He would also carry with him the legacy of being a hugely respected name in the industry, to what appears to be a fractured and vocal locker room.
