According to reports, Manchester United leaders now believe there is ‘no turning back’ for Mason Greenwood following recent backlash from fans.
Mail Sport revealed last week that United’s decision to consult with their women’s team and sponsors was a clear indication that the club is on the verge of ending Greenwood’s 18-month suspension.
However, following backlash from supporters, fan groups and public figures following from the news, reports suggest the Red Devils now have no intention of reinstating him in their squad.

The outlet claims that club chiefs are “quickly rewriting statements” about their decision on Greenwood’s potential reintegration.

A group of Man United supporters protested before the club’s first home game of the season, outlining their opposition to the reintegration of 21-year-old striker Greenwood into the first team.
Greenwood has been suspended by United for the past 18 months following his arrest in January 2022, with the player unable to play for the club or even train with his teammates at Carrington.
In February, the Public Prosecution Service announced that charges against Greenwood had been dropped following the withdrawal of ‘key witnesses’ in the case.
After the criminal case was closed, Manchester United pledged to “conduct its own trial before determining next steps” – which have yet to be confirmed.
It was reported that Arnold had told senior staff that Greenwood would return to the club two weeks ago on 4 August.
According to The athleticArnold planned to record and share a video with staff and the general public explaining Greenwood’s reintegration with the first men’s team.
Arnold’s original plan was for Greenwood not to be involved in any appearances with the club’s charity arm, the Manchester United Foundation.
But in a statement on Wednesday, United insisted a decision had not yet been made.
‘After dropping all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United have launched a thorough investigation into the allegations against him,” the club said.
“This is based on extensive evidence and context that is not in the public domain, and we have heard from countless people with direct involvement or knowledge of the matter.
“Throughout this process, the well-being and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s investigations, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity.
“We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a youngster who has been with the club since he was seven, and as a brand new father with a partner.

Greenwood’s last appearance for United came in a home win over West Ham in January 2022
The United supporters made their feelings clear outside Old Trafford with a banner reading: ‘Women fans demand. Stop violence against women. No return from Greenwood.’
Another fan was seen raising a sign at Old Trafford that read: ‘Don’t leave the decision to the women’s team, you spineless motherless bastard.’
Greenwood is currently on a further two-year contract until 2025 with the option of an additional year, with his deal worth £75,000 a week.
He has been seen training with a fitness trainer at a local public pitch, and his former United teammate Anthony Elanga, who has now joined Nottingham Forest.
