Manchester United and England suffered another injury blow as Harry Maguire was sent for a scan after his early substitution in the Three Lions’ 1-0 defeat to Brazil.

Maguire has been added to the national team’s list of casualties after Manchester City’s Kyle Walker limped off during Saturday’s match.

The pivot defender’s departure in the second half caused concerns, leading to a subsequent scan on Sunday.

Despite Gareth Southgate’s initial decision to replace Maguire alongside Ben Chilwell as a precaution, the Man United star has been ruled out of Tuesday’s friendly against Belgium.

The news will worry United manager Erik ten Hag, especially with crucial upcoming matches ahead, starting with Saturday’s Premier League visit to Brentford.

Maguire’s recent appearance for club or country was marred by his early departure after just 67 minutes, marking his first start since February 24.

His absence adds to United’s defensive problems, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia already missing.

Maguire had only recently returned from a groin injury that saw him sidelined for five games over Christmas.

In addition to Maguire, England also has concerns about Walker.

The Man City right-back underwent a scan after suffering a hamstring injury in the opening 20 minutes against Brazil and was replaced by Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

The 1-0 defeat also saw notable absentees such as Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Harry Kane is now receiving treatment at Bayern Munich for an ankle problem after watching the match from the sidelines.

However, England’s options for the upcoming match against Belgium could be boosted by the return of Jordan Henderson and Cole Palmer, both of whom have been back in training since Saturday.

Brazil secured a win against England, with super-sub Endrick scoring the only goal of the match.
