Manchester City win unprecedented fourth Premier League in a row as they beat West Ham 3-1 on final day as red half of Liverpool pays tribute to Jurgen Klopp on manager’s last day

Manchester City today won an unprecedented fourth Premier League title in a row after seeing off West Ham in a 3-1 win.

It is City’s sixth league title in seven seasons as they completed a sensational run of ten consecutive wins in the final weeks of the season.

It dashed Arsenal’s hopes of winning their first Premier League title since the Gunners’ Invincible season in 2003/04.

Meanwhile, there were emotional scenes at Anfield as a somber-looking Jurgen Klopp, dressed in sad black, led Liverpool to You’ll Never Walk Alone for the final time.

The German blew kisses to the crowd at the final whistle as he won his last game in charge – the first Liverpool manager to do so since 1928 – in a 2-0 win over Wolves, with Alexis Mac Allister and Jarell Quansah scoring the goals scored.

Mohammed Salah had a chance to score a third in the 68th minute, but his curling effort was sensationally tipped over the crossbar by Wolves’ Portuguese stopper Jose Sa.

Cameras focused on Klopp ahead of kick-off as Liverpool supporters sang their pre-match anthem ahead of the final day clash with Wolves.

Klopp appeared visibly emotional on the touchline, with the 56-year-old trying to hold back tears.

In Manchester, the blue half celebrated again with newly crowned Player of the Season Phil Foden showing why he should be the first name on the team sheet for England manager Gareth Southgate at this summer’s European Championship.

Foden put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead after just 79 seconds with a rocket into the top corner, sending the City faithful into hysterics.

And it looked set to be a comfortable afternoon when Foden struck again eighteen minutes later with a sweeping strike, taking his season’s tally to nineteen goals and sending the Etihad Stadium into title celebration mode.

However, Mohammed Kudus’ spectacular bicycle kick for West Ham two minutes before half-time made for a nerve-wracking second half.

Any doubts were extinguished on the hour mark by Spanish midfielder Rodri, whose shot from 18 yards snuck under the Hammers’ desperate goalkeeper Areola.

Erling Haaland should have made it four in the 84th minute but misjudged the corner as the ball hit his shoulder and went crooked from six yards out.

At the final whistle, City fans stormed the pitch as a jubilant Foden told Sky Sports: ‘I think now that we’re in the history books, no team has ever done this. You can see what it means for us and what it means for the fans.

β€œNow we can say we are the first team to do this.”

Liverpool paid an emotional tribute to the departing Klopp on the Anfield pitch at the final whistle.

The match was always going to be an emotional occasion for Klopp and Liverpool fans as the legendary manager ends his nine-and-a-half years in charge of the club.

Supporters lined the streets around Anfield ahead of the match, greeting the team bus and showing their support for Klopp.

Fans lit red smoke flares as the bus approached Anfield for the final time ahead of their final home game of the season.

Reds supporters could be heard singing as the team bus passed by as the atmosphere built for a momentous occasion at Anfield.

Liverpool shared a video of supporters greeting the bus on social media, with the club writing: ‘A special welcome to Anfield for Jurgen’s Reds.’

Klopp was expected to have an important and emotional farewell at Anfield after etching himself into Liverpool history as one of the club’s greatest managers.

In nine memorable years at Anfield, Klopp became the first manager in the club’s history to win the Premier League, European Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

He also won the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

His prize harvest would have been greater than seven without Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as a formidable competitor.

Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager on October 8, 2015, and this afternoon’s match against Wolves was his 489th game in charge of the Reds.

Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk appeared teary-eyed as he told Sky Sports it had been a ‘very emotional day’.

β€œIt was always going to be a tough afternoon for everyone. β€œWe wanted to do our job so we could be very emotional – and we will be,” he said.

‘It was difficult, but we did it. You can’t prepare for these moments when these things happen. Overall it was a good day and he deserves all the love he’s getting right now.”
