An extension to the North Stand is being explored to increase capacity to 53,500
City said the feasibility studies, which invite local residents to weigh in on the plans, are to “develop the best fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad.”
If they go ahead, City’s stadium could become the second-biggest in the country behind Old Trafford.
Current capacity is 53,500 and extending the North Stand by adding a third tier would bring them to the same levels as Tottenham and West Ham United.
A new music venue is currently under construction next to the stadium and is expected to be completed next year.
“Feasibility studies consider a number of connected elements, most notably an extended North Stand, which could increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000,” City said.
The expansion could make the Etihad Stadium the second-biggest ground in the Premier League.
‘In addition, the studio is evaluating the feasibility of an expanded and covered fan zone in ‘Town Square’ with food and drink outlets, a new club shop and museum, work space and a hotel in the place.
“Identifying opportunities to introduce new entertainment experiences, both on and off match day, is a key component of the study, which builds on the club’s ongoing commitment to invest in and develop its facilities for the benefit of its fans and visitors. .
“Fans and the community can share any initial views, including what they would like to see at the Etihad Stadium in the future, or any issues they would like the club to address, before formal consultations in early 2023.”
