Manchester City have announced their first summer signing after completing a deal for Brazilian star Savinho.

The winger, who comes from the municipality of Sao Mateus in Brazil, graduated from the youth academy of Atletico Miniero before moving to Troyes in 2022.

Despite his move to the French club, Savio has not yet played for Troyes. He was loaned to PSV Eindhoven and Girona.

Savinho has signed a five-year contract with the reigning Premier League champions, keeping him at the club until 2029, after Pep Guardiola was impressed with the winger’s potential.

The attacking talent enjoyed an excellent season in Spain with City’s sister club Girona, where his 11 goals and 10 assists helped secure their first Champions League qualification.

Speaking to City’s official website after completing his move to the Etihad, Savinho said: “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world at the moment, so being here is very exciting for me.

‘I am excited about the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the best coaches ever, and I know he will help me to become even better.

‘I had a great time in Spain and am looking forward to a new challenge playing in the Premier League alongside some of the best players in the world.

‘I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new team-mates and hopefully contribute to City’s success.’

Savio reaped the rewards of his excellent form in LaLiga and was called up to the Brazilian national team this year, making his debut against England at Wembley.

He played five international matches, including Brazil’s 4-1 win over Paraguay in the Copa America on Saturday.

Troyes have been relegated twice in a row in the past two seasons, with the club being relegated from Ligue 2 this summer, dropping to the French third division.

Savinho will wear the number 26 shirt for City next season, previously worn by former champion Riyad Mahrez and which has been vacant since his departure to Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian chose the song together with Mahrez, one of his favourite players from his youth, during which time he won five Premier League titles and one Champions League triumph, among other major trophies.
