Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan ‘has not yet decided on his future’ after leading the Cityzens to the Champions League trophy
Ilkay Gundogan says he has yet to decide on his future after leading Manchester City to the Champions League trophy.
The Cityzens’ victory over Inter Milan on Saturday night completed a famous treble following previous wins in the FA Cup and Premier League.
However, Gündogan has still not decided if he will sign a new contract with Etihad due to interest from Barcelona.
He is seen as a suitable replacement for Sergio Busquets, who is leaving the club after 18 years.
According to ESPN, the midfielder said he has “not yet decided” where he will play next season.
He was a key player for City in the latter part of the season. He scored twice in last week’s FA Cup final against Man United and scored 11 goals during the season.
Gundogan said after City’s season-defining win in Istanbul: ‘We knew everyone was talking about the Treble, especially after the FA Cup. The pressure was there, but this team is built to handle the pressure as best it can.
“It will always be difficult for both teams in the Champions League final. We weren’t at our best in the first half. We were doubting. We had some good chances but knew we had to do better in the second half, which we did.
It was probably a 50-50 game where one goal made the difference. We’re very lucky it was for us.’
City’s victory means they have now equaled their arch rivals Man United in winning their three biggest trophies in a single season.
It also means that Manchester is only the second in history in Europe, after Milan, to have two Champions League winning clubs.
Despite taking an emphatic winner after the break, Rodri felt he was playing ‘s***’ in the first half and begged the manager to stay on.
In the end it was an excellent evening for the Spaniard, although his teammate Kevin De Bruyne had less impact after an injury in the first half.
