Manchester City have completed a £53 million transfer for Matheus Nunes.
City had reached a verbal agreement on a £47.2 million deal on Wednesday, but the terms changed overnight and Pep Guardiola’s side will now pay more, with payments spread over a longer period.
Wolves wanted more than £60 million for Nunes and City had threatened to walk out, but the Molineux club are happy with the revised deal structure for the 25-year-old, who refused to train.
City have been interested in Nunes since they decided to abandon the hunt for West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.
Wolves had rejected the Premier League champions’ initial bid of £47m, prompting Nunes to stay away from training, but City’s willingness to back out of the deal resulted in Wolves softening their hard line.

Following their 5-0 victory over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, boss Gary O’Neil said he still expected Nunes to be at the club after the September 1 deadline.
But now that the final elements of the deal have been agreed, he has been cleared to go for medical treatment at Man City.
Although Nunes performed only partially well last season, he still attracted the interest of Liverpool and Wolves have always been confident they could turn a profit on him after the £38 million deal with Sporting in the summer of 2022.
And during Nunes’ days at Sporting, City boss Pep Guardiola described him as “one of the best in the world today”.
