Man United’s Amad Diallo ‘is set to head out on loan again next season’ after hit Sunderland spell

Man United youngster Amad Diallo ‘will leave again on loan next season’ after impressing at Sunderland… with Erik ten Hag ‘expressed reservations about his immediate role at Old Trafford’

  • Man United’s Amad Diallo has been tipped for a move abroad next season
  • The 20-year-old impressed, scoring 12 times for Championship Sunderland
  • The Ivorian winger could find his way to the Dutch top because of his physique

Manchester United’s Amad Diallo could spend next season on loan at an overseas club after a strong spell at Sunderland this season.

Diallo, 20, has been loaned out to the Black Cats this season and has scored 12 goals in 36 appearances for the Championship club.

The Ivorian winger is a success in the second tier but may find his chances limited with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the upper reaches of the Premier League.

Therefore, The Sun suggests he might make another move, this time to a foreign competition in the Netherlands or something like that.

The Dutch Eredivisie is touted as an option because it is a less physical competition, allowing a small player like Diallo to develop.

But Manchester United think the Ivorian has a long-term future at the club, with a contract running until 2025, and want a new loan deal, not a sale.

Diallo was born in Ivory Coast and grew up in Italy, where he broke through in Serie A with Atalanta, scoring on his senior debut in 2019.

In 2021, Man United bought him for £37 million, and he has since enjoyed loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland.

Last month, Ten Hag praised Diallo’s ‘progress’ at Sunderland but said he had ‘reservations’ about the Ivorian’s role at Man United next season.

Ten Hag said: “Young players need experiences, and if we decide he will come back, he needs to be a player who can compete for the starting eleven or at least play a lot of games and impress.”

Diallo is doing well at Sunderland, earning a nomination for the Championship’s Young Player of the Season award.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray warned Man United not to let the young talent be lured away by another big club.

“I have a good feeling for Amad that if he is not back at United, he will go to a top Spanish team for a lot of money. He loves football and wants to play, so what do you do when you are at Manchester United?

“Are you happy yet to be a Manchester United player and make six substitute appearances and two starters in a 60-game season for them? Or do you want to play outside?

So are they going to sell it? When they do, they want their money back, which was reportedly 40 euros or whatever it was.

“I would suggest that they try him at another level and that he go (on loan) to the Premier League, or go back to Italy, Serie A or Spain.”

Manchester United look set to boost their chances of a Champions League spot with a trip to West Ham on Sunday night – having already secured the Carabao Cup and a spot in the FA Cup final.

Sunderland are 7th in the Championship, but can still make the play-offs if results come to their liking on the final day of the season. They travel to Preston on Monday, knowing that a win will give them a shot at the final round.
