Man United will NOT appeal Casemiro’s red card he received for his challenge against Southampton
Manchester United will NOT appeal the red card Casemiro received for his reckless challenge in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Southampton with the Brazilian midfielder now banned for four games.
- Manchester United have decided not to appeal Casemiro’s latest red card
- The club did not consider that there was a high enough probability of winning an appeal.
- Casemiro will now miss a key series of games while serving a four-match ban
Manchester have decided not to appeal Casemiro’s red card in Sunday’s goalless draw against Southampton at Old Trafford.
United felt there was not a high enough chance of overturning the decision, and the Brazilian midfielder will now serve a four-game home ban.
Casemiro will miss this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham and Premier League matches against Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.
He was sent off by Anthony Taylor for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz in the 32nd minute after the referee initially showed a yellow card, but was advised by VAR official Andre Marriner to review the decision on a pitchside monitor.
Casemiro received an extra game on top of the automatic three-game ban because it was his second red card of the season, having been sent off against Crystal Palace in February.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag (right) is not happy with the refereeing in the 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday.
It is also the 31-year-old’s third suspension of the season after he incurred a one-match ban for receiving five yellow cards. He will have missed half of United’s last 16 domestic games by the time he serves his latest suspension.
Despite accepting the punishment, the coach Erik ten Hag criticized the expulsion of Casemiro and the inconsistency of the VAR when it comes to intervening in decisions on the field.
“It’s inconsistent,” he said, after Sunday’s game. “The referees come at the beginning of the season with a policy: we are the Premier League, we want intensity and Casemiro, through the European games, more than 500 (games), never had a red card but now two. He plays hard but is fair.
‘Same as against Crystal Palace, so it’s highly debatable. When you freeze it (the rig) it looks bad. Everyone who knows anything about football knows what is bad, what is fair and Casemiro is a fair player. Tough, but fair, and that shows over 500 major league games and he’s never been ejected. He is disappointed.
