Manchester United will listen to offers for Antony this summer as the Brazilian winger’s miserable career at Old Trafford continues to fizzle out.

United could struggle to recoup even half of the £86 million Antony cost from Ajax 18 months ago, making him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

But it is a measure of the disappointment with the 24-year-old’s form that United are willing to cut their losses and sell him.

Antony has played just one of the last eight games – at Newport County in the FA Cup – and was again named as a substitute as United lost to Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Teenager Omari Forson was chosen ahead of him and manager Erik ten Hag sent on three substitutes, including another young winger, Amad Diallo, before turning to Antony in the final minute of stoppage time.

Antony has now made 20 Premier League appearances this season without contributing a single goal or assist to his team.

As new co-owner Ineos takes a closer look at the cost and effectiveness of the United squad following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment, his figures are dismal.

Ten Hag returned to his former club Ajax in the summer of 2022 to sign Antony and it is understood the Dutchman has not given up on the player as he believes he still has the ability to turn his career around in England .

But Ten Hag admitted last month that Antony was distracted by allegations of domestic violence, which he strongly denies, leading to him being dropped by Brazil in September and spending time in South America to clear his name.

After the defeat at Fulham, the United boss was candid in his explanation for playing Alejandro Garnacho, Forson and Diallo ahead of his expensive Brazilian flop.

“It had nothing to do with fitness,” said Ten Hag. ‘He is fit, but we have a lot of options on the right.

“We have all seen Antony’s form and he needs to go one step further. I see it in training, but Omari Forson and Amad Diallo and Garnacho also deserve to play.’
