Man United will accelerate their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after the FA Cup final
Manchester United will step up their hunt for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after the FA Cup final, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue, but clubs differ by £30m in their valuations
- Mason Mount is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season
- The Chelsea midfielder has failed to agree a new West London contract
- United will accelerate plans to sign the 24-year-old after Saturday’s FA Cup final
Manchester United will accelerate their attack on Mason Mount after the FA Cup final as the Chelsea star is expected to move to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag has identified Mount as one of his main transfer targets, with United’s leaders keen to wrap things up early this summer as they want to avoid the uncertainty of last year’s end of season.
United face arch-rivals Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday as they look to win their second domestic trophy of the season.
But the club will immediately turn their attention to executing their summer recruitment plan – with a deal for Mount one of the priorities.
The main hurdle to overcome is agreeing on a fee; United value Mount – who has just 12 months on his contract – at around £55m, while Chelsea are pricing the England star at almost £85m.

Mount is considered a summer priority for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag
Although there is a significant difference between the valuation of the clubs, there is a willingness on both sides to negotiate.
Importantly, an agreement on personal terms for Mount is unlikely to be a problem with the England international who is known to be fully open to a move to Old Trafford.
Recently appointed Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino prefers Mount, whom he admired during his time at Tottenham and then Paris Saint-Germain, to stay and sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine has been in England this week to continue his preparations for his first season in charge, but there is growing doubt whether Pochettino’s appointment could change the direction of Mount’s future.
Indeed, certain figures at Chelsea believe Mount is destined to leave the club he joined as a six-year-old this summer, with Old Trafford his most likely destination.
As well as Mount, United are also looking to sign a new striker – with Tottenham striker Harry Kane identified as Ten Hag’s preferred option in that position.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is determined to resist United’s advances for Kane as he does not want to sell his star player to a domestic rival.

However, United intend to test Levy’s determination to keep Kane this summer before exploring alternative options, including Napoli’s prolific striker Victor Osimhen.
Kane is open to joining United, but it remains to be seen whether he is willing to act for a transfer.
Like Mount, striker Kane is only on a 12-month contract, leaving Spurs with the prospect of losing him for nothing next year.
Nevertheless, there are early indications that Levy will refuse to sell Kane to a Premier League club this summer, but United are not giving up hope that attitude will soften.
