Man United ‘want to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer for £51million’ – and ‘could include Mason Greenwood as part of a swap deal’ for Brazil international

Manchester United reportedly want to buy Juventus defender Gleison Bremer for £51 million – and could hand off Mason Greenwood in a shock exchange.

United’s interest in Bremer is already well documented, but it has now emerged that they are willing to pay a fee in Juventus’ desired ballpark.

Bremer won the Serie A Best Defender award with Torino in 2020/21 and is also on the radar of Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Sending Greenwood on a swap deal would be a bold move, but it could easily take him off the books rather than find a buyer as United have an asking price of £34m.

With the money and Greenwood together, a deal would be possible, he said La Gazzetta dello Sport.

In the meantime, Calciomercato claims United have stepped up contacts with Bremer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe hoping to jump to the front of the queue before the summer.

Juventus could technically demand more money for him. He recently signed a new contract with a release clause, but that won’t kick in until 2025, reportedly worth between £51m and £60m.

Bremer made the controversial move from Torino to city rivals Juventus in 2022 and has since played a key role in the revival of Massimiliano Allegri at the Old Lady.

Juventus recently hit a wall, dropping to third place in Serie A, but still have an impressive defensive record of 23 goals conceded in 29 league games.

What they haven’t been good at this season is scoring goals, which is why Greenwood could be tempting for them.

He revived his career with Getafe in Spain, scoring eight goals in 27 games.

United have reportedly decided they do not want to loan him out again and are looking to sell him, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid interested. Mail Sport understands that the latter are following him particularly closely.

The attacker, 22, was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behavior in October 2022, but the charges and the case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew.

There is also a possibility he could return to Old Trafford.

New co-owner Ratcliffe left the door open for Greenwood’s return last month, despite previous indications from the club that he would not play for them again.

He said: ‘It’s a new decision. I can talk about the principle. I’m not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the most important. We will have other problems in the future.

‘You are dealing with young people who have not always been raised in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and do not always receive the guidance they should have.

‘What we need to do when we have such problems is to understand the real effects, not the hype. Then we have to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we have to do and that’s how we deal with it.

‘We have to look at the facts, judge fairly and take into account the values of the club. Then we will come out with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.”

Greenwood reportedly has ‘no great desire’ to return to United.

According to The AthleticsGreenwood has heard Ratcliffe’s claims but remains ‘reluctant to accept a return’ and feels the club ‘could have supported him better’ in his case.

The paper further claims that the 22-year-old ‘has no great desire’ to play for Man United again and acknowledges the criticism he could face if he returns.
