United have long been interested in the 22-year-old and scouted him in England’s Under-21 friendly win against Germany in September 3-1.
Aarons, who can also cover as a left-back, has entered the Championship 17 times this season for Dean Smith’s side.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, formerly of Celtic, is also considered a possible option.
News leaves future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka (pictured) signing worth £50m in doubt
Ten Hag praised Portuguese defender Dalot after a fine performance in Sunday’s 1-0 win against West Ham, but with Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of the first team, he strongly hinted he would like to add reinforcements in January.
The Dutchman said: ‘We need two good full-backs’ [on the left and the right] because we still have many games to go.’
Wan-Bissaka, a £50m deal from Crystal Palace in June 2019, has played just four minutes in all competitions so far this season and is linked with a return to Selhurst Park.
