Man United target Feyenoord stopper Justin Bijlow as they look for cheaper alternatives to £40m Andre Onana in hunt for David de Gea’s replacement

Manchester United are interested in Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.

The Red Devils’ need for a new goalkeeper appeared to be on the back burner after they appeared to sign a new contract with last season’s Golden Glove winner David de Gea.

However, a contract extension was withdrawn due to a lack of confidence from his manager Erik ten Hag, and his contract at Old Trafford expired on 1 July.

The club have been linked with a number of goalkeepers and are now considering a move for Bijlow to fill the vacant position between the sticks.

The 25-year-old, who kept 15 clean sheets last season, is seen as a cheaper alternative to Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, although no bid has yet been announced.

Onana has been linked with both United and Chelsea this summer, with both looking to refresh goal, but a £40m fee could prove too high for Ten Hag’s side.

Officials are working on a net spend of around £100m for the entire transfer window, due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions.

They have already agreed a £60 million fee for Chelsea star Mason Mount, who will cut quite a wedge from that war chest this summer.

As a result, Bijlow could end up higher up the list than he might have expected as United look to replace the long-serving Spaniard – one of the last players in the dressing room to win the Premier League at the club.

Bijlow is a current senior international with the Netherlands and has eight caps to his name. He was also part of Louis Van Gaal’s 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, although he did not make an appearance.

De Gea was photographed at a stylish pre-wedding party with his wife-to-be just a day before his Manchester United deal expired.

Hours before the deadline, however, there were no signs of worry or doubt on De Gea’s part, with the footballer clearly making the most of the meeting.

De Gea and Garcia welcomed a large group of friends and family to the Spanish island of Menorca as the party gathered on the sloping beach.
