Man United supporters are enraged after they miss out on Cody Gakpo, while Liverpool fans rejoice

Manchester United supporters were outraged after Liverpool hijacked their Dutch signing and PSV star Cody Gakpo.

The striker had been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford in January, but on Monday night, it was announced out of the blue that the Reds had agreed a £44m move for Gakpo.

United had started talks with the Dutch club but had yet to finalize a financial offer and now they have missed a major target before January.

And after the news broke that Gakpo had been lost, United supporters were quick to lament their plight.

One said: ‘I logged out of Twitter for 20 minutes and Gakpo went to Liverpool?’

Another added: ‘These Gakpo stories have me baffled, man. The pain never ends with this club, NO MATTER WHAT.’

Another user was furious at the news, explaining how it highlighted much deeper problems at the club, pointing the finger at United’s unpopular American owners, the Glazers.

They said: ‘Last January Liverpool sign Diaz while Rangnick begs for attackers, this January Liverpool sign Gakpo while Ten Hag begs for an attacker and Gakpo was the first choice… there’s a which is why Man Utd haven’t won a trophy in 6 years and Liverpool have… it starts with a G.’

On the other hand, Liverpool fans could hardly hide their delight at their potential new signing as news of the agreed fee came completely out of the blue.

It also came hours after their impressive 3-1 win over Aston Villa in their return to Premier League action, which saw them move close to the top four.

One delighted fan said: ‘Liverpool win their first Prem game and sign Gakpo on the same day. War day. Good evening.’

On the contrary, Liverpool fans were delighted after Gakpo was expected to join United.

Another quipped: ‘Three points and Cody Gakpo? If Carlsberg did Boxing Days.

Other fans, meanwhile, couldn’t resist mocking their big rivals by having their jaws dropped at a play by the PSV star.

One shared a photo of Reds midfielder Thiago laughing and captioned the post: “We got Gakpo for half the price of Antony,” referencing the Brazilian’s £85m summer transfer to Old Trafford.

Another added: “Thank you for all the scouting reports and compilations on Gakpo United fans, we’ll take care of that.”

Elsewhere, a Chelsea fan added: “Gakpo was in talks with United for 6 months and it took Liverpool 1 hour to sign him, lmao.” Massive L for United man.’

Football fans also couldn’t resist making fun of United after their transfer mishap with Gakpo.
