Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been criticized for making ‘Under-12’ errors during Ruben Amorim’s brutal start at the club.
United have lost five of Amorim’s first 10 games in charge and are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, just eight points above the relegation zone. Hell, they’re also twelve points behind the Champions League spot.
The 2-0 defeat on Boxing Day at Wolves piled on the misery and Matheus Cunha became the second player in a week to score directly from a corner against United.
The striker’s devilish performance at Molineux fell over Andre Onana’s head, exactly seven days after Altay Bayindir scored the same goal, on that occasion from Son Heung-min, in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
Mailsport columnist Chris Sutton has blasted the schoolboy’s mistakes and believes they will do nothing to help Amorim reverse his side’s nightmare.
A taste of Newcastle’s trip to Old Trafford, Sutton said BBC Sports: ‘I said before Christmas that I thought Newcastle would get going and they did that.

‘The way they are playing, they should win at Old Trafford and make it four league wins in a row. Manchester United’s form is the exact opposite.
‘I’m not afraid of Amorim being fired, but it doesn’t help if your goalkeeper keeps conceding goals from a corner, that’s something for young people under 12.
‘I remember it happened when I was watching my son play when he was about fifteen and he got finished from a corner.
‘I told him you would never see this happen to a professional goalkeeper, but it has happened twice in two weeks at Manchester United, first to Altay Bayindir and then to Andre Onana. You couldn’t make it up.
‘I have to apologize here because I was far too nice to Manchester United last week when I said they would draw at Wolves.
‘Their fans give me so much support on social media when I say they’re going to lose that it must have affected me a bit – I turned a bit of a chicken and took them down to get a draw, when my gut feeling was for them to lose.
‘That has to stop, because it’s nonsense. That’s not up to Amorim, because we will judge him when he gets the chance to bring in his own players, but for now we have to see them as they are, and that’s a really bad side.”
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £47m, but has struggled to perform consistently under Erik ten Hag and Amorim. A recent report suggests he is unsettled in Manchester.

That could see United look for a replacement in the coming months, with Brighton stopper Bart Verbruggen reportedly on their shortlist for the summer.
Amorim has lamented his team’s inability to defend set pieces but insisted they must lick their wounds and adopt the same methods as several of their rivals.
“I don’t want to talk about that after a defeat, but you see that every corner is an opportunity these days,” Amorim said.
“Sometimes you forget about the little guys and the talented guys. You put eleven players in corner kicks or free kicks if you can do everything inside the penalty area.
‘But those are the rules and we shouldn’t cry about them, but do the same. So we must focus on doing the same to the opponent.”
