Manchester United star Christian Eriksen has been nominated for the Laureus World Comeback of the Year award after returning to top-level football following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
The 31-year-old Denmark international midfielder collapsed on the pitch playing for his country against Finland in their opening game of the Euros, played in 2021.
Eriksen was successfully resuscitated on the Parken Stadion pitch and then fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
That meant he was unable to continue playing for Inter Milan due to Serie A rules, but Eriksen joined Brentford in January 2022 and impressed in the second half of the season.
His performances were enough to persuade United to win free agency last summer, with Eriksen one of their best players until he suffered an ankle injury that will keep him sidelined until the end of April.

Eriksen faces competition from five other athletes, including golfer Tiger Woods, who made the cut again at the US Masters despite a career-threatening car accident.
Other nominees in his category include NBA star Klay Thompson, MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia, racer Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Tour de France Femme winner Annemiek van Vieuten.
Winners will be determined by the 71 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, consisting of Olympic champions and sports legends, including former Man United player Sir Bobby Charlton.
