Manchester United slammed for ‘tone-deaf’ comment on David de Gea’s wedding Instagram post as he marries Edurne Garcia in lavish ceremony in Menorca just a day after leaving Old Trafford for free

- United can still re-sign him and plan to talk to him after marriage
David de Gea may have just left Manchester United when his contract expired, but he wasn’t deterred by disappointment when he tied the knot with long-time partner Edurne Garcia in a lavish wedding ceremony in Menorca.
The goalkeeper is now officially a free agent after 12 years at the club as United turned down a contract offer earlier this year and he faces an uncertain future.
They can still re-sign De Gea, 32, and planned to hold personal talks after he married singer, TV presenter and actress Garcia, 37.
But the pair were all smiles as they posed for the special occasion which came after they also enjoyed a pre-wedding party on the Balearic island. De Gea then shared photos on his Instagram with his wife, captioning, “We couldn’t be happier.”
His now former club was quick to respond, sending their best wishes as they said ‘Felicidades, David’ meaning ‘Congratulations, David’.

Manchester United were quick to pass on their well wishes, which infuriated some supporters
De Gea left United on July 1 after his contract expired and he is yet to sign an extension
However, this infuriated some supporters, who questioned the message after United seemingly fooled him into turning down a contract offer to leave him without a club.
One said, “You made him a free agent after years of excellent loyal service and have the courage to comment as a MU fan, f*** off.”
Another said, ‘Are you kidding? You made this man lose his job on a wedding day.”
Another irate fan quipped, “This club has no shame… you’ve been so disrespectful to him!”
Others agreed the club had “no shame”, while another called it “dirty behaviour”.
De Gea – who transferred from Atletico Madrid to United for £18.9 million in 2011 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still manager – was expecting a significant pay cut on his £375,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford, despite being the No. last season.
But the extension was jeopardized by Erik Ten Hag’s reservations about the Spaniard and reports emerged on Tuesday that De Gea had signed his new contract before United pulled out and made an even lower offer.
No resolution has yet been reached and the four-year deal De Gea signed in September 2019 is now expiring.
Nevertheless, it was the turnaround in the deal that provoked most irate supporters, with another adding: ‘As a fan since I was 12 years old, this club is incredibly tone deaf and treats legends like that. Don’t mess with his money and future, but come and wish him well on his wedding day, it has two faces.’

De Gea made several high-profile mistakes that caused Erik ten Hag to have reservations about keeping him at the club, which led to United calling out a deal and making a lower bid.
Meanwhile, another supporter said, “So that’s how you treated a 12-year-old Red Devil, bravo!”
In a statement on Friday night, United said: “David De Gea’s contract is due to expire, but talks with the long-serving keeper remain open.”
United will sit down with De Gea to discuss options but have made sure he doesn’t interfere with wedding plans and private time with his family, but at this stage it seems unlikely that United will accept the goalkeeper, who won the Premier League Golden, will contract again. Glove award for 17 clean sheets last season despite making some high-profile mistakes.
United are interested in Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, as confirmed by the Italian side, while Ten Hag refused to sign Tom Heaton for Luton Town earlier this week to avoid a shortage of goalkeeper options.
Ten Hag has publicly supported De Gea throughout the season, but it is believed he has reservations about some of his abilities, including passing out from behind.
De Gea made mistakes in last season’s away defeats to Brentford and West Ham and was at fault for Ilkay Gundogan’s winning goal for Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
The most likely outcome is now De Gea leaving and looking for a new club amid lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League.
