Manchester United have reportedly targeted Bayer Leverkusen stars Jeremy Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba as the Premier League giants look to strengthen their defense this summer.

The duo have played a key role in Leverkusen’s stunning Bundesliga season, with Xabi Alonso’s side now sitting five points clear at the top of the table.

Leverkusen had extended their lead with a dominant 3-0 win over reigning champions Bayern Munich on Saturday, with Frimpong scoring the third in stoppage time.

The leaders have only conceded fourteen goals in 21 games this season.

Frimpong and Tapsoba have been central to Leverkusen’s excellent defensive record, with the Manchester Evening News report that Man United are monitoring their progress.

Right-back Frimpong was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Dutch defender reportedly on the club’s shortlist last summer.

The 23-year-old was previously in Man City’s academy but did not make a senior appearance for the club.

Frimpong spent two seasons at Celtic before moving to Leverkusen in 2021.

The highly rated full-back, who has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, signed a contract extension until 2028 in October.

The interest in Frimpong comes as Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after United activated a 12-month contract extension in December after deciding not to offer the defender a new long-term contract.

The 26-year-old’s agents are said to have held further contract talks with United last month, but the outcome was not positive.

Man United have reportedly identified Burkina Faso star Tapsoba as a young and athletic center ahead of next season.

The 25-year-old, who is also contracted until 2028, has played 25 games for Leverkusen this season.

Tapsoba has been on Man United’s list of possible central defenders for some time now.

The interest in Taspoba comes as the contracts of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans expire this summer, along with lingering doubts over the futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
