Manchester United have reportedly made inquiries about Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane, but could face a showdown with Arsenal over his signature.

Sane’s contract expires this summer and after losing his place to Michael Olise, he has reportedly considered leaving.

The explosive former Manchester City star has won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern, scoring 51 goals and creating 50 assists since joining for £55m in 2020.

United’s interest in him has been reported a few times over the years, with Arsenal monitoring him over the summer according to Sky Germany.

Now Image have claimed that both clubs could compete for his services this summer, although he is still negotiating an extension of his stay in Bavaria. According to reports, he would like to stay at the Allianz Arena.

Man United and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane

United have made inquiries about the ex-Man City winger, whose contract expires this summer

Pep Guardiola once described him as the best winger in the world when he was at City

Football finance website Capology claims Sane earns around £16.6million per season with the German giants, making him one of their highest earners alongside Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller.

Although his stock has fallen over the past year due to inconsistent form, freeing a 28-year-old Sane would be a major coup for both parties.

The winger was once the fastest player in Premier League history and won two Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola before heading to Germany for a new challenge.

He struck up an intuitive understanding with Kane when the Englishman arrived in the summer of 2023 and featured for Bayern on big occasions.

Sane scored a fantastic goal in the Champons League semi-finals against Real Madrid last season.

However, staying fit is a headache for the German.

Transfermarkt lists seven injuries for him from last season and he has already had two dismissals since the summer, although he has been fit since early September.

He underwent successful groin surgery in July after bouts of pelvic pain last campaign.

The arrival of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace left the winger largely on the bench

Manchester United and Arsenal could get him for free if he doesn’t extend his contract

Sane is best known for his speed over short and long distances. He can play on either flank, but has typically gone on the right at Bayern with Serge Gnabry on the left.

He left City in 2020 because he felt Bayern’s style appealed to him more and Guardiola was always full of praise for him.

“Sane is the best in the world playing wide,” Guardiola said in 2019, calling him an “incredible player.”

However, he has been replaced by ex-Crystal Palace man Olise this campaign and will only be given the chance to prove himself off the bench – something few elite stars can do for long.
