Jack Butland is on the verge of leaving Manchester United, having played no games in January since joining Crystal Palace on loan.
The Englishman was brought in following the termination of Martin Dubravka’s loan from Newcastle.
Butland made 11 appearances in the match squad, but would probably never appear unless there was a fitness or suspension issue for undisputed number 1 David de Gea.
And The Scottish sun reports he won’t be around for much longer at Rangers, now close to signing a deal for the 30-year-old.
Gers manager Michael Beale is looking for a new goalkeeper and doubts the future of veteran Allan McGregor.
Jack Butland (centre) is on the verge of securing a move to Rangers after a quiet loan spell
Butland is out of contract with Palace at the end of the season and will be the Scottish club’s first summer signing.
He has been capped nine times by his country and is currently in the midst of the seventh loan spell of his club career.
Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson recently said Butland could be a good option for his old side as he was a team-mate of his at Birmingham.
He told Go Radio: “Top goalkeepers win your games, so it will be interesting in the coming months to see what actually happens with Allan McGregor.”
Butland has yet to appear for United, having been benched 11 times
“If Rangers were to sign a new goalkeeper I remember it would cost a few pounds as good goalkeepers don’t run out of contracts. One goalkeeper has been mentioned, Jack Butland, he was a young goalkeeper when I was at Birmingham.
“He has an expiring contract in the summer and that could be an option in the summer. That could be an option for Rangers in the future.’
