Avram Glazer has turned up at Manchester United’s training camp in New Jersey amid growing frustration and uncertainty over the club’s sale.
Glazer has been the most visible member of the family, appearing in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals as well as the Women’s FA Cup Final last season. He is expected at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday night to watch United’s opening game against Arsenal.
Glazer and his wife Jill had a brief meeting with manager Erik ten Hag before watching United’s training session at Pingry School on Thursday. The two men spoke only briefly, but Ten Hag told media he would be happy to give his “advice and recommendations” to the owners on the takeover saga.
Eight months after the Glazers said they would explore “strategic alternatives”, there is still no clarity on whether they will sell the club after receiving between £5 and 6 billion from a Qatari group led by Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The main problem is believed to be an ongoing disagreement between United’s co-chairs Avram and Joel Glazer, who want to stay in power, and the other four siblings – Edward, Kevin, Bryan and Darcie – who would rather sell.

This fundamental issue would have been apparent from the start of the strategic review in November and has made life difficult for Raine, the US bank handling the process.
US financial sources say it would normally take between 60 and 90 days, and Raine is uncomfortable that the company has been asked to sell something that is not actually for sale.
“The Glazers don’t care,” said an insider. United is like a work of art in a freeport. The owner only sees the value, not the beauty.’
Meanwhile, Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe are left to fend for themselves. The sheikh made his fifth and final offer last month, with sources close to Ratcliffe saying he is willing to wait it out.
