Ten Hag is tackling important problems and has fallen in level since the Carabao Cup victory
Erik ten Hag admits Manchester United are struggling to ‘survive’ at key moments in matches after losing six of their first 10 games this season.
United play Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday after their worst start in 37 years, following back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.
Ten Hag emphasized the importance of communication between his players to avoid the type of mistakes that are punished by opponents. United scored eighteen goals, the most at this stage of the season since 1966.
United’s winning percentage has also fallen since winning the Carabao Cup earlier this year.
Main points from Ten Hag’s press conference
That is the look back at Erik ten Hag’s press conference. Here are the main points
- Sergio Reguilon does not make a selection for Brentford
- Antony is ready to start against the Bees
- Ten Hag calls for better communication and more consistency if United want to get out of the current rut
- The Dutchman is confident Rashford will be ‘on fire’ if the team ‘do the right things’ amid his recent dip
Away from the press conference…
Former Man United star Paul Pogba has reportedly tested positive for testosterone again following analysis of his B sample after initially failing a drugs test last month.
The Juventus midfielder returned the positive result after Juventus’ first match of the season against Udinese on August 20, a match in which he did not play.
The Frenchman was subsequently suspended as a precaution by the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal and given three days to request his B sample, which has now yielded the same result.
Ten Hag in bad form
Ten Hag said: ‘We have dropped the levels and we have to get back to that.
‘There are reasons for this, but it is still not acceptable and we must fight against it.
‘They have a good basis for the way we play, we have rules and principles. If they help and support each other, we will play better.’
Ten Hag asked about goalkeeper problems
Ten Hag did not mention Onana by name, but called for better communication between his players.
He said: ‘We have had to make changes (in the starting XI) almost every game and the routine changes. As a team you make mistakes and the opponent benefits from them. That’s why we have to be on the same page, at such times we need communication to be well organised.’
Ten Hag about Rashford’s poor form
‘Everyone at Man United supports him, the whole team supports him and believes in him, I’m sure this will change and this will pass.
‘If strikers don’t score, they need a moment and then it will happen. He has so much experience and when he does the right things and the team does, the momentum builds and he is on fire.”
Ten Hag advocates better consistency
Ten Hag said: ‘Consistency. That is the problem we are struggling with. We do a lot of things well in parts of the game. But then we have moments when we struggle. We cannot survive at that moment. We have to do the right things. Be consistent, be consistent in communication, and you will maintain the right organization.
“Large parts of 95 percent of the game, we are the team. But we have to go one step further.
‘It’s difficult (to explain), of course. We talked as a team about how we can improve that. We make some agreements about this.
‘It’s more than one thing. Concentration is one thing, but there are also a number of other things. The most important thing is to stay on one page and that starts with communication.’
Antony ready to start against Brentford
Erik ten Hag has confirmed at his press conference that Antony is ready to start for the Red Devils in their match against Brentford.
However, the match comes too early for Sergio Reguilon, despite the full-back showing up for training this morning.

Man United target signs new contract
Jarrad Branthwaite has signed a new four-year contract with Everton. The defender has been rewarded for positive performances since returning from a seasonal rental with PSV last season.
The 21-year-old, who joined the club from hometown Carlisle United in 2020 for just £1m, has been a mainstay in Sean Dyche’s backline alongside James Tarkowski in recent weeks.
Man United interested in transfer expert Atletico
Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a move for Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta.
Berta has been at the forefront of reorganizing Atletico’s transfer strategy and has previously attracted interest from United.
The Italian has been with La Liga for ten years, where he was initially technical director before being promoted to sporting director in 2017.

United fans call for boycott of meetings with Glazers
Manchester United fans have called for a boycott of meetings with The Glazer family as they escalate their protests against the owners.
Joel Glazer set up a fans’ advisory council following protests at Old Trafford, claiming it would help them hear supporters’ concerns.
But after a dismal start to the season, on and off the pitch, amid fears that The Glazers are not serious about selling the club, influential fans group The 1958 has called on all United supporters to abandon any dialogue with the owners to stop.

Sutton shoots Onana
Chris Sutton believes Manchester United have ‘blundered’ their decision to replace David de Gea with Andre Onana.
Erik ten Hag let De Gea run out of contract last summer after twelve seasons with the Red Devils.
United spent £47 million to replace the Spaniard with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, with Ten Hag reuniting with his former Ajax keeper in large part due to his superior ball-playing skills.

Zlatan risks the wrath of United fans
Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to be defending the Glazers in a manner likely to infuriate Manchester United fans.
The Swedish icon scored more than 500 goals during a glittering career, including a two-year spell at United, where he scored 29 goals in 53 appearances and was part of the team that won the EFL Cup and Europa League in 2016-17.
The Glazers have been a source of contention at Old Trafford since becoming majority shareholders in 2005, facing significant anger and backlash from fans.
