Man United loanee Dean Henderson banned from facing them for Nottingham Forest

REVEALED: Nottingham Forest suspension hero Dean Henderson will be BANNED from playing for parent club Manchester United in their Carabao Cup semi-final unless given special permission to play by Erik ten Hag.

Nottingham Forest’s Carabao Cup penalty hero Dean Henderson will be unable to play parent club Manchester United in the semi-finals unless Erik ten Hag grants him permission to play.

England goalkeeper Henderson saved penalties from Ruben Neves and Joe Hodge as Forest won 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday night after drawing 1-1.

Henderson, who is on a season-long loan at Forest from Old Trafford, had already made several important saves during the match.

But the loan goalkeeper is likely to miss the home-and-away semi-final with Manchester United.

But after Forest drew United in the two-legged semi-final later this month, it means Henderson is unlikely to be involved.

Article 6.3 of the rules and regulations for the Carabao Cup states: ‘Temporarily registered players will not be eligible to play unless the Club holding their full registration gives their written consent.’

It means United would have to give Forest permission to play Henderson in the semi-finals.

Wayne Hennessey is likely to substitute in goal for matches, as was the case when United beat Forest 3-0 in the Premier League on December 27.

Forest manager Steve Cooper admitted that the eligibility rule had left him frustrated.

“I just thought about it, it’s frustrating,” he said. “After seeing the night he had tonight, he was great in the shootout, but he was good in the game, more than good in the game.

‘It’s unfortunate. He’s part of our group, he’s so invested in the group and how we work, what we’re trying to accelerate in terms of what we want to become.

Forest chief Steve Cooper celebrated the victory but admitted that Henderson’s situation held back his achievement.

‘To do that you need a very good goalkeeper. He is not only committing himself as a goalkeeper, he is buying to be in the city and the greater good of the club.

‘He’s put a damper on me tonight.’

United advanced to the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over League One Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night. Southampton will play Newcastle United in the other semi-final with a Wembley final on the line.
