According to reports, Ruud van Nistelrooy will seal a sensational return to Manchester United this summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.
Van Nistelrooy, who was in charge of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands between 2022 and 2023, is said to be in talks about a comeback to Old Trafford.
United are likely to shake up Ten Hag’s backroom team ahead of pre-season after deciding to keep him at the helm following an end-of-season review. Club legend Van Nistelrooy has been identified as a potential assistant coach.
Dutch exhaust Algemeen Dagblad (AD) claim there is enthusiasm over a deal from both parties with Van Nistelrooy expected to sign a long-term contract.
Since leaving as manager of PSV due to a lack of support from the board, Van Nistelrooy has held talks with several clubs to become head coach.

It is believed that Burnley, Club Brugge and other teams in Germany and Spain have made a great choice for the Red Devils, even though they are now on the verge of missing out.
AD adds that Van Nistelrooy is enjoying the looming challenge at United.
The appointment of the 47-year-old would be an important statement from INEOS, with the United hierarchy keen to stamp their own identity on the playing style.
Van Nistelrooy spent four years at United, scoring 150 goals in 217 games. He also won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.
He impressed during his two years in charge at PSV, after helping the club win the KNVB Cup in 2023 and ending his tenure with a 65 percent winning percentage.

However, his surprise return to United – which has developed rapidly in recent days – is likely to raise questions about the futures of several other Ten Hag coaches.
Benni McCarthy, who led the coaching of United’s forwards, is out of contract next month and there has been no movement at the club on an extension.
Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McLaren have been Ten Hag’s replacements since his appointment, while Eric Ramsey left for Minnesota United earlier this year.
Ten Hag is in talks with United over a new deal after being asked to remain in his post during his holiday in Ibiza, but no agreement has yet been reached.
Any potential coaching appointment at the club is likely to be completed before their squad returns for their pre-season training next month.
United declined to comment and stressed that Ten Hag’s extension is their priority.
