- It all starts!: Why can’t Chelsea win the league? They made seven changes and still scored five. Do you think Liverpool could do that?
A Manchester United legend believes Ruben Amorim possesses a trait that could help him become a success at Old Trafford.
Amorim is looking to transform United’s fortunes after succeeding Erik ten Hag as the club’s head coach.
There is a lot of work to do for Amorim, with United currently in 13th place having not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
Amorim suffered his first defeat as United boss this week when his side were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal.
Before that, Amorim had started his tenure with a draw at Ipswich, followed by wins against Bodo/Glimt and Everton.
United are back in action on Saturday evening with a home match against Nottingham Forest.
A Man United legend believes Ruben Amorim has a trait that could help him become a success
Nicky Butt, who spent much of his career at United and enjoyed great success at the club, believes Amorim has the character to succeed.
According to Butt, that quality is something Erik ten Hag lacked.
Butt told talkSPORT: ‘I think what you need at that football club is character.
‘If you look at all the managers who come after Sir Alex [Ferguson]Whether they have failed or not, they are all people who can carry the club on their shoulders.
‘[Louis] van Gaal, [Jose] Mourinho, they are big personalities, big characters.
‘Unfortunately for me, I didn’t think Ten Hag had that character. I thought he wasn’t good at interviews, he wasn’t great on TV, he seemed like he knew what he was doing on a coaching field, but he didn’t transition [that] on a game.
“And I think this man, Amorim, has one thing that I think he has: character.
“Time will tell if he has what he needs to get Man United back to the same level [they want] with the investments that have to go into the team.’

Butt outlined the scale of the task facing Amorim, stating that it could take two years before United would be able to challenge for the Premier League title.
He said, “It’s going to be two seasons, it’s going to be two years.
“It will be four transfer windows before we get to where we need to be and challenging [at] the top of the table.’
United produced an impressive defensive display in the first half against Arsenal but were bowled out in the second period when Jurrien Timber and William Saliba scored from well-worked corners.
Amorim will hope he is given enough time to put his own stamp on the club and recruit players he believes can take United forward.
United are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Tottenham away, while they currently sit twelfth in the Europa League and will face Arsenal away in the FA third round in January Cup.
