Dwight Yorke leaves Macarthur FC after just THIRTEEN games… but could stay in Australia with A-League rivals Sydney FC ‘lining up for legend Man United’
- Dwight Yorke has been sacked by Macarthur FC after just thirteen games
- The decision was made after Macarthur’s A-League loss against Adelaide Utd.
- This was the Manchester Utd legend’s first managerial job at senior level
Dwight Yorke’s spell as manager of Macarthur FC ended after he parted ways with the club, just 13 A-League Men games left on a two-year deal.
Yorke’s last game in charge was Friday’s 1-0 loss to Adelaide United.
The former Manchester United striker met Macarthur chairman Gino Marra on Saturday where it was decided they would agree to mutually terminate his contract.

The Macarthur job was Yorke’s first foray into management after a brilliant playing career. He had achieved his managerial badges at United, where Sir Alex Ferguson mentored him.
He won the Australian Cup, the Bulls’ first piece of silverware, and had five league wins.
However, Yorke could stay in Australia, with A-League struggler Sydney FC lining up a roundup for the 51-year-old.

Sydney sacked Steve Corica after a disappointing start to the season and that opened the door for Yorke, who played for the club in the inaugural A-League season in 2005.
The five-time champions are under increasing pressure after their slow start followed by a terrible 2021-22 campaign, in which they failed to reach the final.
Macarthur’s statement acknowledged that Yorke would like to “seek other opportunities”, further strengthening speculation that he could return to his old club.
“I want to thank Chairman Gino Marra, CEO Sam Krslovic, the entire ownership group, as well as all the staff, fans of Macarthur FC,” Yorke said at his departure.

“I am leaving the football club with a great team that will continue fighting for more trophies.”
Assistant coach Russell Latapy has also left the club, with Macarthur now looking for his third manager in the space of a year after Yorke was brought in to replace Ante Milicic.
Yorke’s brilliant playing resume, which included a stint with Sydney FC in the A-League’s inaugural season, created further intrigue in a competition and a club that has struggled for attention.
He was recommended to the club by former Aston Villa teammate Mark Bosnich, who is close to Macarthur’s pecking order.
