Javier Hernández has posted a photo of himself smiling happily alongside Wayne Rooney, seven years after hinting that Rooney was behind his Manchester United departure.

The 34-year-old Mexican forward played alongside Rooney for four seasons at Old Trafford from 2010 to 2015, winning two Premier League titles together, before being sold to German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Hernandez revealed in a 2016 interview that the English star was the reason he left United, but there seemed to be no hard feelings when he posed with the Red Devils legend.

In a post on Twitter, ‘Chicharito’ said: ‘It’s great to see you again after all this time. Thank you for all the memories we shared on and off the field. I wish you nothing but the best! @waynerooney #OnceARedAlwaysARed’.

Rooney replied: ‘It’s good to see you mate. Special memories’, with a handshake emoji.

The duo are now in the top flight of the US league, MLS, with Hernandez playing for the LA Galaxy and Rooney managing DC United.

The pair, who played in 98 United games together over four seasons, combined for 14 goals.

In 2016, Hernández said: ‘When I left, he [then-United manager Louis van Gaal] He told me that my chances and opportunities were going to be less because his main striker was going to be Wayne Rooney.

“If he wasn’t in shape, for example, I would play, but when he was ready, he would play.”

The duo played 98 times together for United, combining for 14 goals, most notably the second in a 2-0 Champions League semi-final win against Schalke in 2011.

Rooney is in California because his DC United team travels to Los Angeles to face LAFC in a preseason friendly in early February.
