Manchester United have held talks with representatives of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.
De Ligt joined Bayern for £68million in 2022 but made just 16 league appearances last season as Bayern failed to win the league for the first time in over a decade.
United were linked with the defender in January after German reports suggested the Dutchman was not entirely happy with his situation at Bayern.
Mail Sport reported at the beginning of this month that the former Ajax star is among United’s defensive interests, alongside Nice’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Jean-Clair Todibo.
The club have stoked their interest in the 24-year-old through talks with his entourage.

The Red Devils also still want Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but must sell first
United also still want Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton, but must sell.
Branthwaite’s failure to make Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man England squad for Euro 2024 has meant he can negotiate his future without fear of European competition getting in his way.
Everton rejected United’s opening bid of £43 million for Branthwaite earlier this month.
Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte are also possible candidates.
Meanwhile, former United defender Raphael Varane is in talks to join Como.
