Man United flop Donny van de Beek ‘offered to Jose Mourinho’s Roma’

Man United flop Donny van de Beek ‘offered Jose Mourinho’s Roma’ as Erik ten Hag continues his squad… with the Dutch midfielder working his way back from a knee injury

  • Van de Beek, 26, has reportedly been offered to join Roma as he looks for a fresh start
  • The Dutch midfielder’s United career never really took off after a £35 million signing
  • He suffered a serious knee injury in January and missed the second half of the season

Roma have reportedly been offered Manchester United maverick Donny van de Beek as Erik ten Hag continues to trim his squad and raise money for summer signings.

The Dutch international midfielder, 26, has never returned to Old Trafford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bought him from Ajax for £35 million in 2020.

Van de Beek played a supporting role and was loaned to Everton in the 2021-2022 season, where he also failed to make much of an impression.

Not even a reunion with his former Ajax coach Ten Hag brought a change of fortune with precious little playing time before a serious knee injury ruled him out of the second half of 2022-23.

According to Sky Sports ItalyJose Mourinho’s Roma have been given the chance to sign Van de Beek, who looks set to leave United this summer despite two years left on his contract.

Reports say Van de Beek is not a priority for the Giallorossi at the moment, but the possibility of a move could be explored if the Dutchman does not find another club.

Chris Smalling and Nemanja Matic are other former United players currently playing for Roma, under the guidance of their former manager Mourinho.

Roma, who lost the Europa League final to Sevilla last month, have already signed Houssem Aouar from Lyon and Evan Ndicka from Eintracht Frankfurt on free transfers as they build for next season.

Van de Beek began ball work on the United training ground three weeks ago as he recovered from the knee injury suffered when Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi tackled him in the game on January 3.

The midfielder hopes to be fully fit in time for pre-season, but it remains to be seen where he will play.

Van de Beek may not be the only United midfielder to leave this summer, with Fred interesting Fulham and Scott McTominay potentially offered to West Ham as a trade-in for Declan Rice.
