Manchester United fans are furious at the decision to award West Ham a penalty in their 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium.

The Red Devils suffered their fourth Premier League defeat of the season against the Hammers to put more pressure on Erik ten Hag.

West Ham took the lead on 74 minutes through Crysencio Summerville’s finish at the far post, before Casemiro’s header leveled the score seven minutes later.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute when Danny Ings went down under a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt.

Jarrod Bowen successfully converted from the spot to give West Ham a much-needed win.

United fans have taken to social media to complain about referee David Coote’s decision to award a penalty despite a VAR review.

One said: ‘That’s a shame. The match is over, I can’t believe I witnessed this being given as a penalty.’

Another wrote: ‘HOW IS THAT A PUNISHMENT? This is a shame. That is in no way consistent with the decision-making in the Premier League this season. This is one of the worst decisions I can remember. That is in no way a clear and obvious sentencing decision.”

‘Howard Webb needs to fire this p****!!!! That’s a shame of a decision. It’s the most unobvious penalty in history,” a third United fan posted on X.

‘The referee did not award a penalty to West Ham for a challenge by De Ligt on Ings’.

‘The VAR ruled that there was sufficient contact with Ings’ lower leg and recommended an on-field assessment. The referee destroyed his original.
