Mason Greenwood has revealed he is ‘happy’ at Getafe as the forward continues to impress during his loan spell at Manchester United this season.

Greenwood, 22, joined LaLiga in September for the remainder of the campaign after mutually agreeing to leave Old Trafford at the end of a six-month investigation after being cleared of charges of assault and attempted rape.

The attacker was arrested in January 2022 and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but all charges were dropped in February 2023 following the withdrawal of key witnesses.

After making a fresh start abroad, Greenwood has become a regular at Getafe, scoring five goals and four assists in his 17 appearances so far.

His current club are said to be keen to tie him down on a permanent deal, although other parties, reportedly including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, are now in circulation.

“Everything is fine,” Greenwood told Getafe official YouTube channel.

‘I adapted quite quickly. (My) teammates took me under their wing and since then I’m just happy that I came here to train and play the games. I’m happy.’

He added: ‘The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far was when I scored my first goal here in the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot.

‘We had a training day and a lot of fans came to watch. We appreciate the fans. They are like an extra man on the field when they support us.’

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas has praised Greenwood for his quick start.

“Greenwood is a different player, with a lot of talent,” Bordalas said. ‘But in this football talent is not the most important thing. It takes more work than talent.

“If he is 100 percent we can check his actual level, but he has the conditions to play in any major. (He fits into the team thanks to) a lot of patience, with a lot of calm, aware that he had been unemployed for a long time without playing.

‘But we trusted because of the talent, because of the level he has had. Being able to choose a player of this level at Getafe is complicated, almost impossible. And given the situation, we’re betting on him.

“We are happy and satisfied because we have a great player, he is a good boy, he fits in well and he just needs to learn a little more Spanish.”

It is not known what price tag United will put on Greenwood, who scored 35 goals in his 129 appearances at senior level with the club at the end of the season.

Getafe are currently ninth in the Spanish top flight and will play against Sevilla on Tuesday.
