Manchester United have held talks over a deal to sign highly-rated young left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.
The 17-year-old has broken into the first team at Cerro Porteno in Paraguay’s Primera Division, making 21 appearances and scoring two goals.
Scouts from Arsenal and Manchester City noticed this earlier this year and United are now in pursuit.
Leon is fast, tall, athletic and technically good on the ball.
The left-back is proving to be a problem area for United due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s fitness issues, although they do have the emerging Harry Amass, who was bought from Watford’s academy.
Man United have started talks to sign Diego Leon, 17, from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno
The move comes as United look to strengthen their left-back options with Luke Shaw injured
Leon is seen as a talent for the future and talks are underway over a fee worth around £3 million, with Jason Wilcox said to be leading the negotiations.
United also continue to look for first-team cover at left-back, but financial constraints will limit what options can be deployed before January if a striker is also desired.
